Black and white gallery

Silver Gelatin Gallery.

A different black and white image will be displayed here on each visit. Click refresh/reload continually to see them all. I make fine silver gelatin prints from my negatives, and exhibit them around Melbourne regularly.

Some of the images in this gallery are over 15 years old, back in those days I used a 35mm camera - a Canon™ T70 to be precise. Back in those days I also used Kodak™ D76™, now I use D25 a home made developer. The recipe for this was originally given to me by my Lecturer Les Walkling, and can know be found in my favourite resource for this kind of work,‘The Darkroom Cookbook’ by Steven Anchell published by focal press. Eventually I will go back to the awesome developer Pyrogallol. It has an ability to record over 14 zones! The trade off? Extreme losses in film speed, “everything in photography is a trade off”

My prints are also developed in a variety of home made developers some of which are, Ansco 120, Ansco 130, and Amidol. Each has their own characteristics that I favour for a variety of reasons, which I may write about another day in my faq section of this very site

Other cameras I have used in the production of these images are a Mamiya C2 [6x6 cm] and my trusty Linhof Technica 5" x 4" camera. Let's not forget my tripod light meter and notebook.
